Proposed Airport

In December of 2004, Shelby County Fiscal Court was approached with a proposal for a Shelby County airport. In April of 2006, Shelbyville City Council began studying the local airport question again.

In December of 2004, Sam Gray, Ronnie Freels, David Wallace, Chuck Reed, and Tom Edwards approached Shelby County Fiscal Court with a proposal for a Shelby County airport. Estimates of the airport’s size were described as everything from a “recreational airport” to a 500-acre, 5500- foot-runway reliever airport for the Louisville International Airport. After considerable debate and research, Fiscal Court decided to let the airport issue die in 2005, citing financial and other concerns. In April 2006, Shelbyville City Council took up the airport question again. Is such an addition an asset or liability to our community’s future?
